Christians Sue to Stop Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker From Making Them Fund Abortions
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker’s pro-abortion nonprofit, “Think Big America,” spent over $1.5 million this election to support ballot amendment campaigns to enshrine abortion in state constitutions…
And if that weren’t enough, pro-abortion politicians like Pritzker want hardworking Americans like you to feed even more dollars into the cash-rich abortion machine.
In Pritzker’s Illinois, state law currently mandates health insurance policies to cover elective abortions and abortion-inducing drugs…
That’s why Thomas More Society just sued Gov. J.B. Pritzker, state AG Kwame Raoul, and other Illinois state officials, to stop their unconstitutional abortion-coverage mandate and protect the conscience rights of Illinoisans.

We are representing Christian employers, a church, and pro-life organizations such as Students for Life of America, Pro-Life Action League, and Illinois Right to Life, in the lawsuit against Illinois’ unconscionable mandate.
This Illinois abortion coverage mandate forces our clients to choose between violating their conscience and sincerely held religious belief about the sanctity of human life, or foregoing health insurance.
The law mandates that health insurance policies cover elective abortions on the same terms as they cover pregnancy-related benefits. That’s right: The Land of Lincoln mandates that insurance treat the creation of new life just the same as taking one away…
It also requires insurers to provide dangerous chemical abortion pills free-of-charge to any beneficiary who demands them, which forces other beneficiaries to pay for these abortions with their premiums.
To fight back, we’ve partnered with Jonathan F. Mitchell, the formidable former Solicitor General of Texas who has argued seven cases before the U.S Supreme Court. Most recently, he successfully defended President Trump earlier this year before the Supreme Court, in the case that attempted to disqualify Trump from the presidency!
In response to our lawsuit, Pritzker’s Attorney General, Kwame Raoul, doubled down on Pritzker’s promise to support and expand abortion, saying: “I remain steadfast in my commitment to protecting reproductive rights in the state of Illinois.”
Not only is it just plain wrong to force individuals to fund elective abortions that fundamentally contradict their religious beliefs—it is also unconstitutional. And we’re going to court to make that case.Americans have a First Amendment right to exercise their religious beliefs and choose what viewpoints they promote—Illinois’ abortion-coverage mandate forces pro-life Illinoisans to violate those beliefs and runs roughshod over our First Amendment rights.
If billionaire pro-abortion politicians can force Illinoisans to violate their consciences or forgo health insurance, they can do it in your state, too.
Thomas More Society won’t stop fighting for the right of all Americans to live and practice in accordance with their religious and pro-life beliefs.
