These days, you don’t need an Xbox to play Xbox games. The company’s gaming ecosystem is now cheaper than ever thanks to a Black Friday deal that’ll snag you an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max and an Xbox controller for just $20 more than a single controller would normally cost on its own.
The deal follows news from this June that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers would be able to stream cloud-supported games directly from a USB dongle, and although the bundle comes with an Xbox Core Wireless Controller, most Bluetooth controllers will work just fine. So, theoretically, you could also snag the separate Fire TV Stick 4K Max deal (which almost cuts the price in half) if you already have a compatible game controller laying around. (Yes, even if it’s PlayStation branded.)
Again, you’ll need Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to play, since there’s no way the Fire TV Stick can run an Xbox game without help from the subscription’s cloud streaming services, but the bundle with the controller does come with a free month of Game Pass Ultimate, which normally costs $20 a month.
Bundles are active for multiple controller colors, including purple, white, yellow, green, pink, and red (enough for a whole Power Rangers team). You can also opt for a regular Fire TV Stick 4K over a 4K Max for $5 less, although you’ll get a slightly slower processor, a slower wifi standard, and less storage. Alternatively, if all you need is an Xbox controller, there are deals on those too, but availability and pricing differs by color.
Regardless, either Fire TV Stick 4K will support the Xbox app, making this one of the cheapest ways to get in on the current console generation right now—at least until those subscription fees start adding up.
