Serena Williams Planned a ‘Special Day’ for Daughter Olympia & the Video Is Mom Goals

Kids crave one-on-one time with their parents, and even the smallest moments of undivided attention will benefit them. But if you ever get the chance to do something truly epic with your child, you should take it — because it’ll mean the world to them! Case in point: Serena Williams. She just gave her eldest daughter Olympia, 7, a “special day,” and her excitement proves this will be a new core memory for her.

“I wanted to give Olympia a special day,” the 23-time Grand Slam champion captioned a video on TikTok. In it, she plays a viral game with her daughter, where the person filming writes two options on a piece of paper and the other person has to blindly choose one of them to do. Because she’s a mom first and foremost, the first options were both “homework.” When Olympia picked it, she screamed “What?” but then dutifully did her homework with mom. In the caption, Williams explained, “She did cry when she pulled the homework card, but day got better.”

Later, Olympia had many more fun options, like “arcade” or “escape room,” “Chick-fil-a” or “McDonalds,” “manicure” or “foot massage.” In one heartwarming moment, Olympia chose “Play with Adira” and she and Williams took a break from their mommy-daughter date to play with Williams’ 1-year-old daughter Adira. Baby girl was full of smiles laughing with her older sister, sliding down the slide with her, and watching TV together.

Seeing Olympia’s reactions to every choice and delight in spending time with her mom makes me want to try this with each of my kids ASAP. In the comments, people loved it. “I love this wholesome mother side of Serena???? the ???? of ???? we love you boo,” one person wrote. Another said, “You are such a good Mom. you can just tell in the faces of both these beautiful little girls.”

The Wyn Beauty founder, who shares Olympia and Adira with husband Alexis Ohanian, also teaches her daughters about giving back. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this year, Williams shared, “For me, it’s super important for them to love who they are and whatever they look like. I also foster that positivity by encouraging them to give others compliments, especially other girls compliments.”

“So if I see a girl in their class, I’m like, ‘Oh, she looks pretty, right?’ She’s like, ‘Yeah, I like her hair,’” Williams continued. “I’m like, ‘I like her hair, too.’ So just kind of encouraging that, because it doesn’t matter what they look like. If you can find something positive about them then you’re also going to find something positive about you and then you’re gonna win.”

Even though she’s retired from tennis, Williams still inspires us every day!
