Chef accuses Gregg Wallace of mocking her ‘silly’ name and being ‘really unpleasant’ leaving MasterChef fans stunned

A CHEF who previously cooked for Greg Wallace has accused him of making fun of her name and behaving unpleasantly at a food event.

English-born Burmese food writer Mi Mi Aye first crossed paths with Gregg, and his Masterchef co-host John Torode, more than 10 years ago.

And she has particularly bad memories of her experience with the 60-year-old.

Writing on X, she says: “Reminder that years ago, I cooked at an event for Gregg Wallace, who said my name was silly and proceeded to call me “You-You” for the rest of the day.

“Now having really weird flashbacks of that time I cooked Burmese Coconut Chicken Noodles for Wallace and Torode over a decade ago.”

Mi Mi went on to say that while Australian chef John hardly behaved impeccably, he did at least say sorry afterwards, although the 59-year-old has since blocked her on social media.

She adds: “I can laugh about it in retrospect, but they were both really unpleasant to me.

“Torode did actually apologise at one point, but he has still blocked me on here.”

Mi Mi, who read law at Cambridge University, initially qualified as a solicitor, before realising her true passion lay in food.

She has appeared on Radio 4 shows Woman’s Hour and The Food Programme, as well as penning a number of cookery books.

Gregg is currently suspended by the BBC after the corporation launched an investigation into his alleged misconduct over the years.

He stepped down from Masterchef, following historical allegations from 13 people, including former Newsnight host Kirsty Wark, about his behaviour on the programme.

One of those allegations is that he mimicked a sex act in front of horrified colleagues, while Kirsty, who appeared on Celebrity Masterchef in 2011, suggests he told “sexualised jokes” on set.

He has also been accused of taking his top off, talking about his sex life, and even telling one woman he wasn’t wearing any underwear.

On Thursday Gregg broke his silence for the first time since the news of his show suspension came to light.

He said in an Instagram video: “I would like to thank all the people getting in touch, reaching out and showing their support.

“That’s good of you, thank you very much.”

And on the same day rocker Rod Stewart took aim at Gregg, accusing him of humiliating his wife Penny Lancaster, when she appeared on Celebrity Masterchef in 2021.

On Instagram Rod posted: “So Gregg Wallace gets fired from Masterchef. good riddance Wallace.

“You humiliated my wife when she was on the show, but you had that cut out didn’t you?

“You’re a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got ya.”

Before signing off his post with: “Sir Rod Stewart.”
