Spurs defender is a wanted man

Pedro Porro has taken his game to a new level over the past 18 months, with no other full-back in the Premier League having as many goal contributions as the Tottenham man since the start of last season (Squawka).

It has been widely reported over recent weeks that the 24-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed in the Spanish capital.

Various Spanish outlets have revealed that the Tottenham man is one of the options earmarked by Real Madrid as the potential successor to the ageing Dani Carvajal (AS).

Real Madrid impressed by Pedro Porro’s display against City

Sport have now said that Porro‘s latest performance at the home of the Premier League champions only served to further boost Madrid’s interest.

They say that the former Sporting Lisbon is ‘shining’ in North London and that Los Blancos continue to be ‘hot on his trail’ at the moment.

The outlet states that Porro demonstrated at the Etihad Stadium that he is a ‘full-back with the soul of a winger or a striker’, with the Spaniard’s performance being described as ‘extraordinary’.

They even assert that the Spain international was ‘the star of the show’ against Man City and add that Carlo Ancelotti’s men are continuing to ‘keep a close eye’ on his development.

What Porro has said about potential Madrid move

Tottenham fans would have been concerned about the statement that Porro made last month when asked about a potential move to the Spanish capital.

He said at the time (via Relevo): “It fills you with excitement, doesn’t it? You have to focus on your work, but the fact that Real Madrid is interested in you is because you are doing things well.

“Obviously, because as I told you, I try to work and give my best every day. If I get the chance to make that leap tomorrow, I’ll be prepared for that very reason. I’ll have a lot more experience. If you had told me this years ago, I would have told you I wasn’t. Because I’m being honest. Let’s see what happens.”

However, the Spurs defender gave a more measured response when asked again about the possibility of joining Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the most recent international break.

He said on this occasion about a switch to Madrid (via El Desmarque): “My name and others are mentioned, but I am focused on my club and now with the national team.

“My friends send me the rumours, it is a compliment, but I am focused. It is the result of a job well done that one of the best clubs in the world is taking notice of me.”
