Tree Lighting Ceremony, 'Home Alone' screening and more to do in Portland this weekend

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Now that holiday season is in full throttle, so are Portland's offerings of seasonal festivities.

Check out the fun activities and events coming to the city this weekend.

40th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

When: Friday, Nov. 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
Where: Pioneer Courthouse Square, 701 SW 6th Ave, Portland, OR 97204

Weeks after a 75-foot Douglas fir was delivered downtown, residents will attend the 40th-annual tree lighting ceremony downtown. The ceremony also includes performances from local groups and solo acts, such as Thomas Lauderdale from the Portland-based Pink Martini.

The Taylor Party: Taylor Swift Night

When: Friday, Nov. 29 at 9 p.m.
Where: Revolution Hall, 1300 SE Stark St #203, Portland, OR 97214

Celebrate Taylor Swift’s birthday early with a party featuring best hits from the pop star’s extensive discography. Attendees of this 21+ event are encouraged to dres in outfits from their favorite Swift era.

Snap! Y2K: Black Friday Party!

When: Friday, Nov. 29 at 9 p.m.
Where: Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison St, Portland, OR 97214\

Music venue and nightclub Holocene is honoring Missy Elliott with a night dedicated to her well-known tracks, including “Work It” and “Lose Control.” The DJ will additionally play hip hop, pop and rock songs from throughout the ‘90s and early 2000s.

Geek the Halls

When: Saturday, Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Where: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Portland, 1000 NE Multnomah St, Portland, OR 97232

The Lloyd District’s DoubleTree hotel will host Geek the Halls, an annual holiday fair offering crafts from dozens of artists and entrepreneurs. The fair is free both days.

Small Business Saturday Celebration

When: Saturday, Nov. 30 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Where: Director Park, 815 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 97205

Portland Metro Chamber is highlighting small businesses with a celebration at Director Park. The festivities will include live music from singer-songwriter Jay Ringer and a scavenger hunt led by visual artist Mike Bennett.

Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton

When: Saturday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.
Where: Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97205

The Oregon Symphony will play tunes that Danny Elfman composed for Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and more, as images from each film are presented on the big screen.

“Home Alone” // $5 Fam Jam

When: Sunday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m.
Where: Tomorrow Theater, 3530 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97202

Just after marking its first anniversary, PAM CUT’s Tomorrow Theater will kick off December with classic Christmas movie “Home Alone” starring Macalauy Caulkin.
