'Small Business Saturday vital to our success'

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Shop small. Win big.

That's the push in Portland as several local business districts offered prizes and discounts on Small Business Saturday, a nationwide push to encourage holiday shoppers to support locally-owned businesses.

Shoppers can enter raffles for chances to win one of more than 100 different prizes, including sports tickets, boutique hotel visits, stylist appointments and theatre tickets to the Oregon Ballet.

Money spent in the community stays in the community, which helps everyone in the area.

"Small Business Saturday is really vital to our success throughout the holiday season as well as every day. It impacts us greatly," said Deena Spang, the manager of The Arrangement. "It encourages people to not shop at big box stores, but shop at small stores and we rely on our community support to stay in business."

This year's small business promotion continues through December 15.
