M25 traffic gridlocked for 2.5 miles after ‘serious’ van and car accident
Drivers on the M25 in Essex are 2.5 miles of congestion today following a ‘serious collision’ between a van and a car.
The incident happened at around 4am and involved a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction. Emergency services attended the scene as motorists were told to take alternative routes.
While all lanes have since been reopened, traffic officials say this morning’s commute won’t be smooth sailing. Journeys this morning will be about 30 minutes longer than usual anti-clockwise between J27 (M11) and J26 (Waltham Abbey).
The M6, the longest motorway in Britain, is also ‘severely’ jammed up this morning southbound between junctions J21A and J21. Delays of around 10 minutes are expected for drivers, according to National Highways.
Congestion, the agency adds, is also clogging up the M11 southbound between junctions J7 and J6 due to a road traffic collision as well as the M60 anticlockwise between junctions J13 and J11.
