Guilderland Police recover stolen car at Crossgates Mall

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Guilderland Police arrested two teens on Saturday, November 30, for allegedly stealing a car at Crossgates Mall. The two youths are facing several charges.

Police said the vehicle owner exited the mall, and their car was missing. When law enforcement checked the area, officers saw the vehicle driving on Crossgates Mall Road and attempted to perform a traffic stop.

The stolen car's operator and passenger fled the vehicle on foot. Police said the operator didn't place the car in park, which caused it to roll and collide with another Guilderland Police patrol vehicle.

Police briefly chased the suspects on foot and placed them in custody. Both are Schenectady residents, and the police said neither of their names would be shared due to their age.

The stolen vehicle was returned to the owner. Both youths were released to their guardians and scheduled to appear in Albany County Probation later.

Charges

  • Second-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
  • Third-degree criminal possession of stolen property
  • Second-degree obstruction of governmental administration
  • Resisting arrest
