Map shows list of universities with the biggest amount of stoners
Students go to university to expand their minds – but for a long time many have done it in ways that don’t involve books.
Now a leading student newspaper has compiled a league table of the top institutions where the most weed is smoked.
Almost 7,000 at the UK’s prestigious ‘Russell Group’ universities responded to The Tab’s survey about drugs and vaping, with the newspaper ranking universities by how many ‘stoners’ they had.
The rankings were based on how many students admitted to smoking the class B drug, which is the most popular.
In first place was the University of Manchester, where 90 per cent of students said they had tried the class B drug.
It came ahead of Sheffield, Newcastle, and Birmingham in the rankings.
Those attending Cambridge University were found to be the most clean living.
They finished ahead of those studying at the University of York.
Overall, a total of 76 per cent of students responding to the survey admitted to doing drugs while at university.
Nearly one in five of those admitted they were addicted.
Eleven years ago, in 2013, a similar survey was conducted, which found students at the University of Leeds having th ehighest proportion of respondents who admitted to trying illicit substances (85 per cent).
In the previous investigation, Cannabis was found to be the most popular substance, with 68 per cent of those surveyed admitting trying it, followed by MDMA (46 per cent), laughing gas (45 per cent) and cocaine (29 per cent).
