Alpine F1 confirms that Jack Doohan will replace Esteban Ocon at Abu Dhabi GP
Jack Doohan will drive for Alpine in the final race of the 2024 F1 season
Alpine confirmed on Monday morning that Jack Doohan will slide into Esteban Ocon’s seat for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race of the Formula 1 season.
Rumors swirled around the paddock Sunday at the Qatar Grand Prix that the team might be making such a move, with Ocon’s post-race comments hinting at a chance. The veteran driver is moving to Haas for the 2025 F1 season, allowing Ocon to participate in the post-season testing session at Yas Marina with Haas.
It also enables Alpine to give reserve driver Jack Doohan — who is stepping into a seat at Alpine on a full-time basis next season — a full race weekend to gain some much-needed experience before 2025.
In a statement, Alpine thanked Ocon for his service and confirmed that the move would allow both drivers to partake in the post-season test.
BWT Alpine Formula One Team announces that Reserve Driver Jack Doohan will race in the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in place of Esteban Ocon. The change allows Esteban to be released to Haas to drive in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi.
Jack, who has already been announced as an official driver for the 2025 season alongside Pierre Gasly, will race with the #61 as his registered Reserve Driver number and will also participate in the end-of-season test for the team at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The team would like to thank Esteban for his time at the team and he will remain part of the team’s history achieving the first win for Alpine in Formula 1. We wish Esteban the best for the future.
The news comes as Alpine looks to hold onto sixth in the F1 Constructors’ Championship. Pierre Gasly’s fifth-place result in Sunday’s Qatar Grand Prix banked ten critical points for Alpine, and they enjoy a five-point lead over Haas in the fight for sixth.
