Brrr! Portland sees coldest overnight temperatures since January ice storm
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland’s overnight temperatures hit a preliminary low of 27 degrees on Dec. 2, the coldest temperature recorded in the city since the deadly arctic blast that coated Portland in a layer of ice on Jan. 17.
The January ice storm saw a low of 25 degrees. Two more near-freezing nights are in the forecast before temperatures begin to rise, KOIN 6 Meteorologist Kelley Bayern predicts.
“Due to a persistent high-pressure ridging pattern over the western U.S., we will continue to see frigid overnight lows near freezing,” Bayern said. “This is due to the lack of cloud cover overnight, which usually helps to insulate the region and often keeps more mild temps in place. Lows will then warm some and bump back into the 40s by Friday morning.”
Morning temperatures are forecast to reach 49 degrees by Saturday.
