‘Has the Capability of…’: Indian Test legend gives Judgement on Jasprit Bumrah’s Leadership

India’s Test cricket legend Cheteshwar Pujara believes that Jasprit Bumrah has all the qualities of being a good captain and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) should think of him as the leader of the team after the retirement of Rohit Sharma.

Bumrah recently led India to a dominating 295-run victory against Australia in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He was chosen as the captain of the team since Rohit Sharma missed the match due to personal reasons.

“He is (a long term captaincy option) without any doubt,” Pujara said on ESPNCricinfo.

“The way he has showed that in difficult circumstances when we had a tough series at home and when you are playing a first Test match in Australia and to put up a show like that,” he added.

“I think he has the capability of leading the team and he’s a team’s man. You look at him he never only talks about himself, he talks about the team, the other players. What advice he would give,” he concluded.

Team India had travelled to Australia after a 3-0 series loss against New Zealand in the three match Test series, which had also resulted in a massive hit to the hopes of entering the World Test Championship (WTC) finals.
