Lafayette Animal Shelter to host holiday Empty the Shelters event
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- If you're thinking about adopting a pet, there is no better time than right now.
From now until Dec. 17, all animals at the Lafayette Animal Shelter, located at 410 N. Dugas Road, are eligible for adoption (dogs and cats) for a $0 fee. Animals are fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed or neutered.
Bissell Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, is promoting a national call for adoption with its Empty the Shelters reduced-fee adoption event.
The Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center is one of more than 400 participating shelters in 45 states.
"We currently have several pets who have been with us for over 30 days, and we’d love nothing more than to see them find loving homes in time for the holidays," said LASCC Shelter Supervisor Shelley Delahoussaye. "Opening your home to a pet not only transforms their life but brings joy and companionship to yours."
Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event began in 2016 with a goal of encouraging more families to choose adoption. More than 300,000 pets have found homes since its inception.
Bissell Pet Foundation and the Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center urge families to research the pet they are interested in adopting, as well as adoption requirements. For more information on adopting or donating to Empty the Shelters, visit bissellpetfoundation.org/empty-the-shelters and lafayettela.gov/lascc.
The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from noon until 2 p.m.
