Darcelle XV Showplace announces new ownership

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Darcelle XV Showplace announced Monday night that the historic drag club will remain open in 2025.

Darcelle XV Showplace washed away fears of closing in a Facebook post Monday night that read, "Thank you all for your continued support! We are beyond thrilled to share that under new ownership, our doors will remain open!!! In 2025, Darcelle XV & Co will celebrate 58 years in business!!"

Not much is known at this time other than the transfer of ownership from Walter Cole's (Darcelle XV) children's hands. The Facebook post stated that an "Official announcement forthcoming!"

This news comes after months of uncertainty for the Portland Old Town space. It was in July of 2024 that the iconic LGBTQIA+ club released a statement that read, “The time has come to make difficult decisions regarding the future of Darcelle XV Showplace.”

The bar has continued to go through change after the death of the oldest living drag queen and owner, Walter Cole known as Darcelle XV.
