Applications Open for 2025 IJF Academy
Following the two previous sold-out editions of the course, we are excited to continue to share IJF Academy development opportunities with our coaches.
Entry for the 2025 cohort of the coaches for the IJF Academy Undergraduate Certificate as Judo Instructor (UCJI) programme is now open. The demanding practical sessions pushed all participants to challenge themselves and their partner to develop their technique in a positive learning environment.
The UCJI programme requires students to complete an 18-week online course, with assessments along the way. Subsequently, students can complete the qualification at an IJF Academy practical assessment which take place all over the world. British Judo have been proud to host an IJF Academy practical assessment for the past three years, with students from Great Britain, United States, Iceland, Ireland, Poland, Jamaica and Germany in attendance. IJF Academy experts shared their expertise across the week, offering support to participants where necessary to uphold the high standard of teaching delivered in both practical sessions and the learning process behind the techniques.
The course was very well received by all participants with many sharing their experience through feedback upon completion.
“Completing the IJF Academy UCJI course was an incredible journey, and considering the practical week, one not to be taken lightly. It has really helped solidify and enhance my overall Judo knowledge and given me invaluable skills that will help me inspire the next generation. I believe it has helped be become a better Referee, Coach and Judoka.” Dan Harris, British Judo Referee and member of the National Referee Commission.
“I found the IJF Academy instructors course a great opportunity to learn, refresh and challenge my existing judo technical knowledge, The initial online modules covered a range of varied judo topics from the history of the IJF to kata and technical specifics and lots of things in-between!
I would highly recommend the course if you wish to improve your overall judo knowledge and do so with a shared peer group of coaches from around the world. The great sense of achievement from completing the practical week is something I thoroughly enjoyed as a judoka.” Matt Divall, Head of Performance Pathways, British Judo.
The IJF L1- Instructor and UCJI qualification is mandatory when coaching matside on the IJF World Tour.
