Pakistan calls on Taliban to control TTP activities
Hamid Hussain, a representative of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan’s National Assembly, recently met with the Taliban Ambassador in Islamabad and called for the control of the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) by the Afghan Taliban.
Hussain, who represents the Kurram region in Pakistan’s National Assembly, conveyed in a video message on Monday that he had discussed several issues with Taliban Ambassador Ahmad Shakib, including problems related to the Kharlachi road and halted trucks carrying fruits and vegetables.
He mentioned that the Pakistan Army had initiated operations against the TTP militants in the area and emphasized the need for Afghan Taliban to prevent any activities of the TTP from taking place within Afghanistan.
Hussain stated, “The Pakistani Taliban could potentially pose a threat to us, so I requested the Taliban Ambassador to ensure that TTP does not use Afghanistan’s soil against Pakistan.” According to him, the Taliban Ambassador assured that the Afghan Taliban is actively working to prevent insurgents from utilizing Afghanistan’s territory for attacks.
This discussion highlights the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban, particularly regarding the presence and activities of the TTP in Afghanistan.
The Pakistani government has expressed concerns about the Taliban’s ability to prevent cross-border insurgency, and this meeting underscores the delicate nature of Pakistan-Afghanistan relations in the wake of the Taliban’s return to power.
Both sides have emphasized the need for cooperation to avoid further destabilization in the region. In the broader context, the issue of cross-border militancy remains a significant challenge for regional peace and security.
