Sixers sign Cleveland Charge center Pete Nance to two-way contract
Nance averaged 18.3 points in eight games with the Charge this season.
The Philadelphia 76ers have signed Cleveland Charge center Pete Nance to a two-way contract according to a team statement. In a corresponding move, Lester Quinones is being waived from the Sixers.
Nance appeared in eight games for the Charge this season and eight games for the Cavaliers last season. The 24-year-old also started 26 games for the Charge last season, averaging 13.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game. This season, Nance is averaging 18.3 points on 47% shooting to go with 6.6 rebounds and nearly two blocks per game.
Nance assumed starting center duties for the Charge this season following the departure of Isaiah Mobley, who coincidently also signed with Philadelphia’s G League team, the Delaware Blue Coats. The Akron native played collegiately at Northwestern and the University of North Carolina before going un-drafted. Nance, of course, is the younger brother of Larry Nance Jr., who currently plays for the Atlanta Hawks.
For the Sixers, who have dealt with a miserable start to the season, Nance provides depth at the G League level and an innings eater for the NBA squad. Superstar Joel Embiid has dealt with several injuries to start the season, and as the losses pile up it may be prudent for Philadelphia to examine if any young players have juice (see: Jared McCain).
The Charge will now turn to JT Thor as the starting center, though he is also on a two-way and could be called up to Cleveland at any time.
