Centre notifies incentives for inland waterway transport
India’s Shipping Ministry has launched a Rs 100 crore scheme to boost inland waterways transport by providing a 35% incentive for cargo movement on NW-1, NW-2, and NW-16. The scheme aims to shift cargo from road and rail to waterways, potentially diverting 800 million tonne Kilometre cargo. It also subsidizes scheduled services to demonstrate IWT mode's reliability.
