MLB Insider Shares ‘Very Likely’ Scenario For Juan Soto’s Decision

Reports from the first round of Juan Soto meetings indicated the superstar’s free agency decision wasn’t going to be entirely about money.

But the New York Post’s Jon Heyman made it pretty clear Monday — the highly anticipated verdict mostly will be about money.

Appearing on “Foul Territory,” Heyman was asked if he could see a scenario where Soto leaves money on the table when he picks his next team.

“I think there’s a chance, but I think not likely,” Heyman said. “…In this case, we’re talking about guys who are going to have opt-outs. So, if you have opt-outs, that’s more evidence that you’re going to go for the biggest money because if you don’t like the place, you can then opt out, right? So, I think it’s very likely he would get the biggest deal that he’s offered. I wouldn’t say it’s a guarantee.”

Heyman did highlight one specific scenario where Soto potentially could leave a little money on the table. The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly are expected to make an expensive offer to the 26-year-old — if not the most expensive — but Soto, for whatever reason, might prefer to play in the United States.

That said, Heyman isn’t under the impression that geography will be a major factor in Soto’s deliberation. Thus, we should see an arm’s race for the ages next week.
