November storm damage totals nearly $52M in losses, Oklahoma County Assessor says
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — The Oklahoma County Assessor's Office says they have determined 402 properties were destroyed or damaged, with $51.9 million in market value losses as a result of severe weather in November.
Parts of Oklahoma County were hit by severe storms in early November that included an EF 3 tornado that touched down near SE 89th and Sunnylane Road in Oklahoma City.
“After the documentation of damage, the assessor will report the information to the Board of Tax Roll Corrections." When the property value is reduced or eliminated, the property taxes on the real property may also be reduced or eliminated. The bad news is the properties have been damaged or destroyed, and families have suffered a devastating event. The Assessor’s Office CAN PROVIDE property tax relief. Currently, we are documenting the damage, which should save property owners more than $700,000 in property taxes,” Oklahoma County Assessor Larry Stein said.
If your home was damaged by the November storms but you're unsure if the damage has been documented, you can call the Oklahoma County Assessor's Office at 405-713-1201.
