Shen pulls away from Troy to tip-off season

CLIFTON PARK, NY (NEWS10) -- The Troy boys basketball team started hot, but ultimately Shenendehowa was too much on Tuesday night in each team's season opener. The Plainsmen took down the Flying Horses 82-64.

Jamil Hood made his return to a high school basketball sideline for the first time since 2018, at the helm of the Troy program. Hood led Green Tech to a state title in 2014.

The Flying Horses flew out to 19-8 lead, and led 22-12 after the first quarter. Sophomore Stetson Merritt tallied 13 points in the opening quarter, finishing with 34 points in the game.

The Plainsmen came to life in the second quarter, outscoring Troy 23-13 to tie the game at 35 at the half. Shenendehowa pulled away in the second half on their way to an 82-64 win. Begad Ibrahim led the Plainsmen with 24 points, while Ethan Rudd added 23 points.
