UAlbany creates new gaming design graduate program
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Students looking to study gaming design and development for a career can now have the chance to do so with the University at Albany. On Tuesday, officials said the new bachelor and master programs will launch in the fall of 2025.
A February Center for Economic Growth report said the Capital Region has 20 digital gaming studios, including Blizzard Entertainment, Velan Studios, and WB Games New York. The Department of Information Sciences and Technology is offering the new programs.
Students can develop skills in game programming, networking and security, self-designed games, AI and game design and development, and more. Students looking to major in the new program must complete 58 credits of practical skills, theory, and hands-on work.

Graduate students must complete five required courses, a capstone course, three concentration courses, and three electives. The master's program prepares students to lead in game development environments.
Chair of the Department of Information Sciences and Technology Department Carol Anne Germain said completing the program prepares graduates to enter the game development industry. "Whether a student's passion is game design, programming, audio, emerging technologies, or any other facet of game development, this program provides the knowledge and skills to turn their dreams into reality," Germain said.
