Illegally charged by SmileDirectClub? You could be eligible for a refund
NEW YORK (PIX11) – SmileDirectClub was once a household name that flooded the airwaves and social media with advertisements.
The teeth-straightening company has left existing customers in financial limbo since shutting down last December, but that will soon change. New York Attorney General Letitia James has recovered nearly $5 million from SmileDirectClub, claiming that the company illegally charged customers after shuttering.
More than 28,000 customers, including over 2,000 New Yorkers, will receive full or partial refunds or a reduction of outstanding payments.
"Dental care is expensive and SmileDirectClub promised customers that they would provide affordable, quality care without the price tag, but instead, they extracted thousands of dollars from hardworking people," James said in a statement.
If you were a patient of SmileDirectClub and believe you were misled by the company's billing practices, you can file a complaint online or call 1-800-428-9071.
