Lake Charles man accidentally shoots himself, kills woman in her home: CPSO
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) -- A Lake Charles man is charged with manslaughter after a woman was killed by a stray bullet after he accidentally shot himself on Sunday, authorities said.
Cristina Lobato, 66, of Lake Charles, was found dead Monday evening by Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies from an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators said a bullet from a shooting call deputies responded to on Sunday entered the victim’s residence, striking and killing her.
Previously, deputies were dispatched Sunday to the same trailer park on Tom Hebert Road in Lake Charles and were told by Obking Provost, 20, of Lake Charles, that someone shot him while he was walking in the neighborhood.
Detectives said Provost actually accidentally fired a gun, injuring himself and sending the bullet into the victim’s home.
Provost, who is a convicted felon and unable to legally possess a firearm, was arrested this morning and charged with obstruction of justice, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, manslaughter and illegal discharge of a firearm. His bond is still pending.
The investigation is continuing and detectives are currently in the process of identifying others who may have provided Provost with assistance. More arrests are possible. If you have any information on this case, you are asked to call CPSO at 337-491-3605.
