The move away from his character of Billy Mayhew isn’t thought to be permanent, and he should be able to return to the ITV soap after.

The actor was tagged in a post from Figaro the Musical announcing his new role as it wrote: “Special Casting Announcement!

“West End and UK star of theatre, television, and film DANIEL BROCKLEBANK will be joining @figaromusical as Sienna’s ferociously protective father, ANTONIO!

“UK audiences know this superstar best as Billy Mayhew on the hit show @coronationstreet.

“Don’t miss out! Secure your tickets today to the Feb 3 & 4 shows at the world-renowned London Palladium through the link in profile  or at figaromusical.com.”

He also recorded a video addressing fans as he explained: “Hello, there. It’s Daniel Brocklebank here and I have some very exciting news.

“I am going to be stepping away from the cobbles of Coronation Street only for a few days to debut the role of Antonio in Figaro.

“A new musical at the iconic venue, The London Palladium on the third and fourth of February 2025, tickets are on sale now. I hope to see you there.”

The move to London and away from Wetherfield comes as Daniel’s character Billy Mayhew has faced heartbreak this year, especially after his husband Paul died after a battle with motor neurone disease.

The harrowing storyline hit close to home for Daniel after he revealed a personal connection to MND through his grandfather.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online at the Inside Soap Awards, the star said: “I’ve just had a couple of weeks on holiday, so that was my decompression.

“Obviously, after Paul’s death storyline, we then had about 10 weeks of the aftermath of that.

“I feel decompressed now. Tanned and decompressed.”

Elsewhere in the interview, he reflected on feedback received from fans.

Daniel revealed: “This storyline’s been such hard work.

“For the audience to have been on board with it as much as they have been, we’re thrilled.

“That means it’s done exactly what we hoped it would do.”
