'What the hell is going on?' Steve Bannon panics as Pete Hegseth nomination crumbles
Right-wing influencer Steve Bannon lashed out at President-elect Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago advisers after word leaked that former Fox News host Pete Hegseth could be replaced as nominee for defense secretary.
During a Wednesday rant on his War Room program, Bannon reacted to news that Trump could nominate Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) or others to replace Hegseth.
Hegseth's nomination has come under fire in recent days over allegations of drunkenness and sexual misbehavior.
"This morning, Pete's mom came on Fox and Friends, sat on the curvy couch to make a defense of her son," Bannon noted. "But they're in shock, and they intend to defeat Pete Hegseth and into culling from the herd."
"We got we have to go all-in on Pete," he insisted. "Now, what is quite discomforting — and this is where you got to get it back to what in the hell is going on. You got to get organized in Mar-a-Lago."
"President's got too much burden on him, and last night was leaked, you know, Ron DeSantis is now — they're looking at Ron DeSantis maybe."

Bannon pointed out that "maybe there's not a commitment to Pete Hegseth" in the Trump camp.
"We're going down a slippery slope," he warned. "[Matt Gaetz], Hegseth, these are all taking a political toll. They just are."
"It's like you're spending your political capital, and we have to concentrate."
