Val Chmerkovskiy Says 'Dancing with The Stars' Show Romances Are 'Incredibly Unprofessional'

Val Chmerkovskiy is slamming the Dancing with the Stars “show-mances.”

In a new interview, the 38-year-old pro dancer said that he finds it “unprofessional” when the DWTS pros date their celebrity partners, but did admit that he’s “been guilty” of that dynamic in the past.

Keep reading to find out more…“Long time ago, my first couple of seasons, I’ve been given partners that I did have romantic exchanges with — incredibly unprofessional to do so in my mind,” Val shared on the Lightweights Podcast. “During the season, I feel like that was a bit irresponsible at times.”

Val went on to explain that pros dating their partners is inappropriate because the pro is supposed to be “there as their teacher,” adding, “Like, don’t s–t where you eat kind of thing comes into play.”

If you didn’t know, Val has been married to fellow DWTS pro dancer Jenna Johnson since 2019, with whom he shares 1-year-old son Rome.

“I’m very serious about my job and my craft. And so to have allowed myself to get involved during… now after this season, that’s different. We’re both adults, we’re not at work,” Val explained. “But during the season, I feel like that was a bit irresponsible at times. Behind closed doors, I undermined my own season by doing that.”

Val‘s comments about the show-mances come as pro dancers Gleb Savchenko and Sasha Farber are both dating their celebrity partners from this most recent season of DWTS.
