Heartbreaking moment mum tells her little girl, 4, she’s going to die and ‘go up to the sky’
A DYING mother told her four-year-old daughter she will “go up to the sky” as they share a heartbreaking moment.
Sara Long told her little girl Riley she would “become a star” to prepare the youngster for her death.
The 26-year-old is now entering hospice care after a brave battle with a rare kidney disease.
Sara has been fighting since her diagnosis at just 13-years-old, and found hope when her own mother donated a kidney.
But tragically the transplant was rejected and a new donor was not found.
Sara and her husband Justin have since tried to prepare Riley for her mum’s passing, which is expected in the upcoming weeks.
In a gut wrenching conversation, filmed by KOCO, Riley asked: “Are you going up to the sky?”
Her mum told her: “I’m going up to the sky that’s right baby.”
Justin added: “She’s going to become a star.”
“So when you look up at the stars and you can see me,” Sara told her daughter.
The young mum’s symptoms first began as a teen, when rashes and bruises would appear mysteriously and fail to heal.
Husband Justin told how his wife has suffered through “endless hospitalizations, dialysis sessions, and obstacles”.
After a failed kidney transplant from her mum at 16, there was a chance her friend could donate her organ.
But unfortunately the potential donor was diagnosed with lupus which prevented the surgery going ahead.
Despite her devastating prognosis, Sara said she has “already had my miracle”.
“I feel like Riley is my miracle,” she explained.
“And getting to spend these years that I’ve had with her is my miracle because it has put in so much work and so much effort into making sure that I stay alive and saving my life time and time again.”
The devoted mother said she would rather have 26 years “full of adventure and full of meaning and full of love” than “100 mediocre ones”.
Sara has written Riley “dozens, if not hundreds” of letters to open at each milestone in her life, from her first day of school to university graduation.
Justin also hailed his wife’s determination and positivity, telling how she put up “a good fight” and “lived longer than she was supposed to”.
The couple are now trying to raise money for Sara’s funeral through a GoFundMe.
In their appeal, Justin wrote: “We are entering the final chapter for my lovely wife as she transitions to hospice care.
“Sara Long can’t be described by one word, sentence, paragraph, or book.
“Not even the entire Encyclopedia collection can scratch the surface of this beautiful woman.
“What I can say is Sara was the most beautiful, kind-hearted, caring person to ever exist, sacrificing her own energy and resources to help others and bring joy to as many others as possible.
“She was a successful businesswoman, perfect wife, and most importantly, the best mother any child could ask for.”
