Bournemouth player comments suggest Spurs are getting a good reputation

Two Bournemouth players who played all 90 minutes of their side’s 1-0 win over Tottenham on Thursday, made an interesting observation about the Lilywhites.

Tottenham were outclassed

Bournemouth have been impressive at home all season and it was always going to be a challenging game for Ange Postecoglou‘s men, given the players they were without.

However, the performance of the away side has raised major alarm bells as they failed to get a foothold in the game, and in the end, they were lucky to lose just 1-0, with the Cherries having twice as many shots as them.

The result sees Andoi Iraola’s men leapfrog Tottenham in the Premier League table and move into ninth place, which makes for sorry reading for the Lilywhites.

Bournemouth duo comment on Tottenham

A couple of the Bournemouth players were quite complimentary of Spurs after the full-time whistle, particularly praising the physicality of the North London side.

Former Tottenham man Adam Smith told Amazon Prime (05/12/24): “It’s a credit to the gaffer and the staff; they get us in great shape. You could see on the pitch, I think Spurs are the best physical team in the league. And I think we went toe-to-toe with them today.”

Meanwhile, defender Dean Huijsen, who netted the match-winner for the home side, also referenced Tottenham’s physicality.

He told Amazon Prime after the 1-0 win: “We know Tottenham is also a very physical team so I think it was a great matchup and a great match to watch for the fans watching at home and in the stadium.”

What Smith and Huijsen are referring to

One assumes that the Bournemouth duo are not just suggesting that Tottenham are physically strong but rather referring to the fact that the Lilywhites are one of the hardest-working teams in the division both on and off the ball.

One has to say that Iraola outclassed Postecoglou tactically, but in the Spurs boss’ defence, he was severely hamstrung by the injuries that Tottenham are dealing with at the moment.
