British pork back on the menu in China as ministers ink deal worth £80million to the UK
BRITISH Bangers are back on the menu in China as Covid-era restrictions on pork exports have finally been lifted.
The deal is worth a massive £80 million to British farmers and traders, ministers said.
China is the world’s biggest pork consumer – where pigs ears, tails and even the trotters are considered tasty delicacies.
But Beijing stopped importing pork during Covid and has only gradually lifted restrictions.
Food Minister Daniel Zeichner said: “This is a massive win for British pork producers.
“Our pork is world-famous for its quality, and now we can give Chinese customers what they’re hungry for.”
Trade Minister Douglas Alexander said: “Economic growth is at the heart of everything this government does, and opening export opportunities is vital in achieving that.”
Britain sold £180m worth of pork to China last year.
This trade boost could see another £80m of the tasty meat to the Communist country every year.
