One Big Takeaway From Bruins’ Comeback Win Over Flyers
BOSTON — The Bruins really need to figure things out on special teams, because they can’t keep winning at this pace.
Boston interim coach Joe Sacco was able to get things in order — though for a relatively short time — when he was elevated into his new role, as the club improved its power-play percentage and penalty-kill percentage across his first few games behind the bench.
It’s now going backward, however.
Boston finished 1-of-6 on the power play and just 1-of-2 on the penalty kill on Saturday, though they were still able to secure a 4-3 overtime win over the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden.
Charlie McAvoy was (somewhat impressively) involved in five total penalties, though he committed three of his own that led to a decent chunk of time being spent in the penalty box. Boston did a decent enough job bleeding time without one of its best killers, but the inability to cash in on the other end consistently makes things harder than they need to be.
The B’s ended up getting it done in the end when Pavel Zacha scored the game-winning goal in overtime, but it probably didn’t need to be that dramatic.
