Woman accused of shooting teen at North Portland apartment complex
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A woman is in police custody after allegedly shooting a teen boy at a North Portland apartment complex Friday evening, prompting a tactical response, Portland police announced.
Just before 6:30 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of North Vancouver Avenue on reports of a shooting.
On arrival, they found an injured 17-year-old boy who was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Police say his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Upon further investigation, police say they learned the suspected shooter, an adult woman, was in a nearby apartment.
After officers ordered her to come out of the apartment, she refused, prompting response from Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), authorities said.
However, the woman, identified as 37-year-old Natasha Molett, eventually surrendered.
Molett was taken into custody on charges of second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault, felon in possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.
When searching Molett's apartment, police say detectives seized a handgun believed to have been used in the shooting.
The incident is still under investigation, officials said.
If anyone has further information in this case, they are encouraged to contact Portland police.
