CSP Wolfpack win football state championship

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Once again, you can't spell state championship without CSP.

The merged football powerhouse from Clymer/Sherman/Panama has won its third NYSPHSAA Class D title in seven years, routing Burke Catholic 46-7 on Friday at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse.

Fellow Section VI champion Salamanca took its first loss of the season, 26-20 against Schuylerville in the NYSPHSAA Class C championship game on Saturday.

CSP, ranked No. 1 in the state throughout the postseason, finished the season with an 11-2 record, winning its five playoff games by an average of 31 points.

Wolfpack quarterback Tate Catanese was 12 of 16 passing for 178 yards and four touchdowns in the state final. The Connolly Cup nominee also rushed for a score.

Travis Owens rushed for 105 yards with a touchdown and 2-point conversion ru. Carter Brink (43 yards) caught two touchdowns, while Bryce Hinsdale (70 yards) and Alex Barmore (59 yards) each had one, as built a 37-0 lead before halftime.

Hinsdale, who also kicked a field goal and made four extra points, finished his career with 231 receptions, a state record.
