Cleanup underway for Mechanicville hydraulic oil spill
MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is cleaning up a hydraulic oil spill in the Hudson River in Mechanicville. DEC officials said they responded to a call about a visible oil sheen on Monday.
Officials said a preliminary investigation determined that an unknown amount of hydraulic oil was released from the New York State Electric and Gas hydraulic plant. Environmental contractors overseen by the DEC began the clean-up process immediately.
Officials added there are no known impacts on local drinking water. The investigation is ongoing, and the DEC is monitoring any potential health and environmental risks.
