Simon Binkley Commits to University of Alaska Fairbanks
Vernon, BC: The Vernon Vipers are thrilled to announce that forward Simon Binkley has officially committed to the University of Alaska Fairbanks to continue his academic and athletic career.
A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, Binkley has had an impressive rookie season in the BCHL, showcasing his well-rounded game. In his first season with the Vipers, Binkley has recorded 1 goal and 7 assists, while demonstrating his dedication to improving all aspects of his play.
Reflecting on his commitment, Binkley shared his excitement about the opportunity to return home and play for the Nanooks. “I’m super excited to make it official and finally come home and play in front of friends and family,” said Binkley. “I grew up going to the games and the Nanooks were my biggest inspiration growing up. The facilities are second to none and with them being so close to home, it seemed like the perfect fit.”
The Alaska Nanooks men’s ice hockey team competes at the NCAA Division I level and plays its home games at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks. The Nanooks have a strong history of player development and success, and Binkley joins a proud tradition of Vernon Vipers alumni who have gone on to play for Alaska. Notable Vipers who have donned the Nanooks’ jersey include current Assistant Coach Colton Sparrow, as well as Chris and Steven Jandric.
The Vernon Vipers organization congratulates Simon Binkley and his family on this outstanding achievement.
