The King and Queen’s latest Christmas card has been slammed for not quite being in the festive spirit.

King Charles and Queen Camilla this week released their third Christmas card since he took the throne in 2021 – and people have said they wanted to see him in a Santa hat.

The card features a photo, taken in April 2024, of the couple in the garden at Buckingham Palace along with a message reading: ‘Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year.’

But one Brit had complained about the card, arguing it’s not ‘Christmassy enough.’

Andy Freeman, from the North East of England, told the Northern Echo: ‘It’s not very Christmassy, he could have put a Santa hat on or something.

‘Just looks like they are at a mate’s wedding.’

However, fans of the card took to social media to praise it.

One user, Delia Simon, posted on Facebook; ‘King Charles and Queen Camilla always do it with such elegance.’

While another hit back at Mr. Freeman’s comments, sarcastically writing: ‘Christmas is RUINED because, according to some local bloke, the King should be wearing a Santa hat.’

In the photo chosen for the Christmas card, Queen Camilla is seen wearing a blue wool crepe dress by Fiona Clare accompanied by private jewellery. While the King, 76, is wearing a grey suit and blue tie.

2024’s image is described as more informal than last year’s card, which showed the couple in Buckingham Palace’s Throne Room following the King’s coronation.

The release of a Royal Christmas card has been a feature of the festive season since Prince George and Mary of Teck sent our a photo of their young son, Bertie, who went onto become King George VI.

When King Charles was married to the late Princess DIana, he sent cards featuring those two pictured with William and Harry which were hugely popular.

Now, Charles, Queen Camilla and Will and Kate, along with Harry and Meghan, all send out cards of their own to friends, family and associates.
