United Water System customers frustrated with 'god-awful' water quality

ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- For years, Arnaudville residents have complained about the quality of water they have been receiving from United Water System. They say the inability to drink it is the least of their worries.

Amber Delahoussaye is a customer who said the issues surrounding the plant must be addressed.

"There's so much more than like the physical effects from this god-awful water. Our water heater is not working or functioning properly. Our clothes are getting affected. I don't even give my dog this water anymore because he started to have health issues," she said.

Amelia Schexnayder, another customer, said white clothes are turning yellow in the wash because of the water.

"We're having to spray bleach on them to get yellow spots out in the water is very horrible. The smell is horrible," she said.

Continuous boil advisory notices and upset customers have plagued United Water over the years.

In September, the plant was found to be in violation of treatment technique requirements for minimum disinfectant levels. This is something, they have been working to fix with the Department of Health's help.

The customers said they won't believe anything will be fixed until they see the improvements.

"Every month for the past a year and a half, almost two years. We get that information because it's been ongoing forever," Delahoussaye said.

United Water sent out a statement on social media with updates on a project to install new filters at the plant. According to their engineer, the project is anticipated to take up to six months to complete. You can find their entire statement on their Facebook page.
