Hannah Kobayashi’s Family Says She’s Been ‘Found Safe’
A month after 30-year-old photographer Hannah Kobayashi was reported missing following her failure to make a connecting flight in Los Angeles, her family says she’s been “found safe.”
“We are incredibly relieved and grateful that Hannah has been found safe,” Kobayashi’s mother and sister told People in a statement through their attorney.
Kobayashi’s family previously told reporters they received alarming texts from her about someone trying to steal her identity in the days before she was scheduled to fly from Maui to New York. She left Maui but didn’t board her connecting flight in Los Angeles. Later in November, her father, Ryan Kobayashi, who’d traveled to L.A. to aid in the search for his daughter, was found dead in a parking lot near LAX from an apparent suicide. Hannah Kobayashi was declared a “voluntary missing person” earlier this month after the LAPD reviewed surveillance footage of her seemingly walking into Mexico alone with her luggage.
“This past month has been an unimaginable ordeal for our family,” Kobayashi’s family said through their lawyer. “We kindly ask for privacy as we take the time to heal and process everything we have been through.”
