Salvation Army angel tree gifts need turned in by Friday

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Heads up, if you adopted an angel for the Salvation Army angel tree program, they need those gifts as soon as possible since they already had to extend their deadline earlier this week.

There’s gifts of all kinds getting ready at the Salvation Army’s warehouse for their angel tree program, but as of right now, they’re still in need of quite a bit of help.

"We're still missing around 200 angels, and we want to make sure that they get the gifts that you've purchased for them,” Annie Perkins with the Salvation Army said.

Oklahomans adopted 2,000 angels to buy presents for children this holiday season. As Perkins mentioned, not every child’s wishlist has been fulfilled. She said if you adopted an angel and haven’t turned in gifts, please do so by Friday.

"We will be beginning to fill in the gaps of any forgotten angels with other toys that have been donated by the community,” she said.

Volunteers could be seen at their warehouse Thursday double checking boxes of gifts almost as if they were Santa double checking his nice list to make sure everything’s perfect.

"It is an extremely exciting time of year for us here at the Salvation Army,” Perkins said.

Tons of toys, clothes and more are packed in the boxes with bikes lined up as far as the eye can see, which shows the program is in full swing. However, they already had to extend the deadline to return gifts earlier this week because they were missing over 400 at the time. In Cleveland and McClain Counties, they’re currently missing about 80. If anyone would like to step in and help, Perkins said toys and clothing items are the best way to go.

“Oftentimes clothing items and shoes are the things that we struggle with finding the variety of sizes,” she said. “So, if you feel it in your heart to go and purchase size 0 to 12 clothing for children in our community, we would gladly accept those as well by Friday.
