Patti LuPone Was ‘Energized’ by Sunset Blvd.

Patti LuPone has no intention of hitting you with her car, tripping you while you walk up stairs, or pulling out your hair as you walk by. LuPone’s review of Sunset Blvd. was shared on Instagram by journalist Frank DiLella on December 12. “I went in with trepidation, because I have strong feelings about the show, not what happened to me in the show, but the show, period,” she said. “I loved this production. I thought Nicole and Tom were stunning. I thought Nicole was unbelievable; she broke my heart. She is a force!”
LuPone saw the Jamie Lloyd–directed show the previous night and apparently thought everything was amazing. This is huge news, because LuPone was the original Norma Desmond on the West End, before being unceremoniously fired, trashing her dressing room, suing Andrew Lloyd Webber over it, and adding a pool to her home with the money she got from the lawsuit and naming it in Lloyd Webber’s honor. So, yeah, this approval is a shock to some. “I was energized by the time I left the theater,” she said. Honestly, that could go either way with her.
