Taliban must act against terror groups threatening Pakistan: Islamabad

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said concerns over terrorist attacks from Afghanistan continue to be a topic of discussion with the Taliban. Zahra Baloch emphasized the need for security assurances.

On Thursday, Baloch called for constructive engagement between Pakistan and the Taliban administration, urging cooperation to address security threats from groups operating in Afghanistan.

She mentioned that Pakistan’s concern lies with terrorist groups finding safe havens in Afghanistan, operating with impunity against Pakistan. This remains a key issue for both countries.

Pakistan has held recent talks with Taliban officials in Kabul and Islamabad, emphasizing dialogue and cooperation to resolve the ongoing security challenges.

Earlier this week, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, and Taliban’s ambassador in Islamabad agreed to strengthen bilateral relations, following discussions on regional security.

The escalating tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban have strained trade and diplomatic relations, as Pakistan accuses the Taliban of sheltering Pakistani Taliban militants. These allegations have jeopardized the stability of their relationship.

Despite Taliban denials, the growing tensions risk undermining cooperation between the two countries, with the potential to destabilize the region further.
