A primary school was locked down this morning after a man in his forties was stabbed and the attacker fled.

Police found the man with stab wounds near Alexander Street in Wigan, Manchester, just before 9am as children were in school.

Greater Manchester Police have made no arrests yet and the attacker fled the scene, prompting two other nearby schools to lock down.

A police spokesperson said: ‘At 8:50am this morning (Friday, December 13) we were called to reports that a man had been stabbed on Alexander Street, Tyldesley.

‘Emergency services attended and a man in his 40s has been taken to hospital for further treatment.

‘A scene has been established while officers conduct initial enquiries.
