Juvenile accused of stealing firearms, PlayStation from Abbeville home, authorities say

ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- A juvenile was arrested in connection with a home burglary where a PlayStation 5 and firearms were reported stolen, according to the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office.

The juvenile faces charges of simple burglary and possession of stolen things.

In a news release, the sheriff's office said the charges stem from a burglary that was reported Wednesday at a home on Red Rose Lane in Abbeville. Deputies were told that a PlayStation 5, a suitcase and two firearms were taken from the home when the residents were not there.

The sheriff's office said the juvenile, who was unnamed in the news release, was identified as a suspect and "was known form previous investigations."

"After making contact with the juvenile, and his legal guardian, the suitcase and PlayStation 5 were recovered and returned to the owner," the news release read.

Authorities said three firearms were recovered during the investigation but that two of those are associated with a separate residential burglary that is also currently under investigation.

"It was also learned that the juvenile was on probation for a previous offense. The probation officer was contacted and made aware of the new incident and investigation," the sheriff's office said.

Authorities said an initial hearing was held today at the 15th Judicial Court. The court ordered that the juvenile stay in custody with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office. The juvenile was later taken to a juvenile detention center for housing.
