Shoppers rave about ‘great little heater’ that costs 14p to run and ‘worth every penny’
SHOPPERS are raving over a heater found in Dunelm that will keep your home cosy without having to turn the central heating on.
Many households may be worried about rising energy bills this winter, after Ofgem said the cost of yearly energy bills will rise by around £21 to £1,738 come January.
The heater costs just 14p to run[/caption]But many savvy shoppers have praised an Oil Filled Radiator that you can pick up in Dunelm for £25.
The device is portable, meaning you can move it from room to room to keep you warm.
Customers have given the heater glowing reviews, with one describing it as “very economical”.
Another said it was a “great little heater” and “very reasonably priced”.
“It had no problem heating up a double bedroom,” they added.
Meanwhile, a third said it warms up well and a fourth said it was “worth every penny.”
Better yet, the heater costs just 14p to run if you leave it on for an hour – making it cheaper than turning on your central heating for the same amount of time.
That’s because the current cost of gas is 6.24p per kilowatt-hour (kW/hr).
Therefore, if your central heating system uses a 24 kW boiler, running it for one hour would cost approximately £1.50.
So customers could save £1.36 on their heating bill if they opted to use the oil heater for an hour.
The product is available to buy online and in-store.
However, if you are keen to shop in person it is always worth ringing ahead of time to check stock levels to avoid disappointment.
It’s not the first time shoppers have gone wild for a Dunelm heating device.
They also went crazy for its 2000W Convector Heater which will set you back £28 and costs a mere 45p per hour to run.
One happy shopper said: “What a great little heater. Silent and powerful enough to warm any room up within a few minutes.”
Another added: “Very good heater. It does a good job at heating the room, hasn’t made the electric bills high at all. Highly recommend, totally worth the money!”
How to get help with your energy bills
If you are worried about paying your energy bills this winter it is worth being aware of a number of support measures which are available.
For starters, the government has begun rolling out its Cold Weather Payment, which gives people £25 for every seven day period of cold weather.
Many gas and energy suppliers offer grants and schemes for customers who are struggling.
For example, British Gas has a fund open to pre-payment meter and credit customers who have found themselves in debt worth up to £1,700.
The Individual and Families Fund was first set up in 2021 to help households struggling with energy debt.
This scheme’s support is available to British Gas and non-British Gas customers.
You might be able to get help with essential costs from your local council through a programme called the Household Support Fund (HSF).
The funding is designed to help people who are vulnerable or can’t afford to pay for necessities like energy bills, water bills, and food.
4 ways to keep your energy bills low
Laura Court-Jones, Small Business Editor at Bionic shared her tips.
1. Turn your heating down by one degree
You probably won’t even notice this tiny temperature difference, but what you will notice is a saving on your energy bills as a result. Just taking your thermostat down a notch is a quick way to start saving fast. This one small action only takes seconds to carry out and could potentially slash your heating bills by £171.70.
2. Switch appliances and lights off
It sounds simple, but fully turning off appliances and lights that are not in use can reduce your energy bills, especially in winter. Turning off lights and appliances when they are not in use, can save you up to £20 a year on your energy bills
3. Install a smart meter
Smart meters are a great way to keep control over your energy use, largely because they allow you to see where and when your gas and electricity is being used.
4. Consider switching energy supplier
No matter how happy you are with your current energy supplier, they may not be providing you with the best deals, especially if you’ve let a fixed-rate contract expire without arranging a new one. If you haven’t browsed any alternative tariffs lately, then you may not be aware that there are better options out there.
