Woman, 52, killed after car mounts pavement and hits her just months after she scooped Postcode Lottery prize
A WOMAN has been killed after a car mounted the pavement and hit her – just months after winning the Postcode Lottery prize.
Anna-Maria Stevens, 52, and her 23-year-old daughter were on foot when they were hit by a car in Essex on Thursday afternoon.
The pair were rushed to hospital where Anna-Maria was pronounced dead.
Her daughter’s injuries are believed to be “non life-threatening or life changing,” according to Essex Police.
The force has arrested the driver of the black Suzuki Splash on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
She is currently being held in custody for questioning.
Social media was flooded with tributes, with one reading: “You will sadly be missed by us all.
“We are all thinking of your family and friends.”
Another wrote: “So sad RIP Anna-Maria Stevens.”
In a statement released by Essex Police after the incident, a spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a collision between a car and two pedestrians at the junction of Hamlet Court Road and St John’s Road at just before 5.30pm.
“A 52-year-old woman and her 23-year-old daughter were taken to hospital, sadly, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, the 52-year-old woman died.
“Her daughter’s injuries are described as not life-threatening or life changing.
“The 31-year-old driver of the car, a black Suzuki Splash, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. She remains in custody for questioning.
“The woman’s family are being supported by specialist officers.”
They appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward – quoting incident number 930.
Anna-Maria spoke in January this year of her £13,000 win in the Postcode Lottery.
She said she had spent the majority of her winnings on her dog, who had suffered kidney failure after supposedly ingesting poison.
