Shetland 2025

Week long meet to Shetland for walking and rock climbing (also cycling).

Following on from the successful Club meet to the Shetlands in 2018 this meet is a return visit to explore the islands there. There are a lot of walks available across the island with much of interest in the history of the area; geology, bird life and general scenery. Cicerone produce a very useful book – “Walking on the Orkney and Shetland” Isles by Graham Uney There is also a wide range of rock climbing around the island detailed in the rock climbing guide “Shetland Climbing” by Al Whitworth

Venue: Last time we stayed in one of the island’s bods but this time looking to stay in the chalets at Easterhoull Chalets at East Voe near Scalloway. A collection of self catering chalets taking four people per chalet. One double and two single beds for each chalet. Access to Shetland – · Flights by Logan air from various airports to Sumburgh · Boat (overnight) from Aberdeen to Lerwick Hire Cars available on Shetland

Additional notes:

The accommodation at Easterhoull is in chalets taking 4 people per chalet. The cost of these is £99 per day, per chalet, with a deposit of £100 per chalet on booking which is refundable up to one month before the booking date. This would mean an overall charge for the week of £693. We will look to divide the cost of all the chalets by the number of members attending as we may not fill up all the chalets completely. If all the chalets are full this would work out at £173.25 per person for the week. We have therefore provisionally booked 5 chalets and paying £500 deposits accordingly. Therefore looking for members, who want to go, to pay £25 deposit against their booking. In June 2025 will look at the over interest and work out provisionally what the balance would be and contact members to (a) confirm they are still going and (b) ask for balance due. We will look towards booking additional chalets if needed (and available) or cancel, before the month deadline.
