Vito held his trousers after suffering an awkward wardrobe malfunction

The dancer, who won last year alongside Coronation Street star Ellie Leach, held his trousers after suffering an awkward wardrobe malfunction as Sarah attempted to cover the broken zip with her dress.

Drawing attention to the embarrassing moment, host Tess Daly joked: “We have a wardrobe issue, are you able to maintain your decency?”

Manoeuvring himself behind his partner Sarah, he was able to keep his dignity before heading up to the Clauditorium to join Claudia Winkleman and other Strictly stars.

The cheeky dancer didn’t let it dampen his mood as he joked alongside his partner as they waited for judges scores.

The couple were awarded 39 out of 40 for their performance, with only Craig Revel Horwood scoring them less than 10.

The wardrobe malfunction also didn’t get missed by Strictly viewers as one pointed out: “sarah and vito’s reaction to his trousers splitting open had me crying.”

Another pointed out: “After #vito’s wardrobe malfunction: the trousers are too tight this year.”

The couple took to the dance floor to perform their American Smooth, after receiving some pointers from head judge Shirley Ballas in training.

When they performed it last they scored 33 in week eight from the judges.

Sarah has previously revealed that it isn’t the judges who give her the harshest scores, as her mum Jill is her fiercest critic.

Sarah said: “My mum texts me and is like, ‘why can’t you two just stand still? Everybody else is standing beautifully. They’re calm.

“They’re looking at the camera. They’re not fidgeting. And then I get to you two and Sarah, your legs are going, Vito’s changing position’.

“But I have had moments when I think, ‘I can’t do this, I’m knackered’. And certainly at the beginning I would say, ‘I can’t carry on, I need to go home now’.”
