In Mariners news...
- Adam Jude and Ryan Divish at The Seattle Times provided even more insight into the Luis Castillo trade discussions, reporting that the Mariners are specifically targeting first baseman Christian Walker via free agency and second baseman Nico Hoerner via trade, but “can’t” acquire those players until they shed some salary.
Around the league...
- The Cubs and Astros sealed a blockbuster trade that sends outfielder Kyle Tucker to Chicago for third baseman Isaac Paredes, right-hander Hayden Wesneski, and prospect Cam Smith.
- The Cubs also agreed to a two-year contract with veteran catcher Carson Kelly.
- The Yankees finalized a deal to acquire star closer Devin Williams from the Brewers in exchange for left-hander Nestor Cortes and infielder Caleb Durbin.
- Major League Baseball handed out its pre-arbitration bonuses, with infielder Bobby Witt, Jr. topping the list of earners.
- Former Mariners pitching prospect Sam Carlson continues to get opportunities in affiliated baseball.
