Whitehall water system stabilizing, state of emergency still in effect

WHITEHALL, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Whitehall village officials issued an update on Saturday regarding the ongoing water emergency. Reports showed that the area's water system is stabilizing, but the village remains in a water deficit, officials stated.

The village's boil water advisory is still in place until further notice. Residents are urged to keep conserving water and continue utilizing distribution stations.

Amid the state of emergency, the New York Attorney General's Office put out an alert warning residents to be aware of possible price gouging of essential items. State law prohibits businesses from drastically raising prices on products that are deemed vital to the public's health and safety during emergencies.

"As Whitehall works to restore clean and safe drinking water for all of its residents, I am strongly warning against price gouging of any essential goods and services," said Attorney General Letitia James. "New Yorkers must be able to purchase water and other supplies they need without being taken advantage of. Anyone who sees abnormally high prices during this emergency should contact my office."

Consumers with price gouging concerns can contact the Attorney General's Office by filing a complaint online or by calling (800)771-7755. Whitehall officials said a new update on the water emergency is scheduled to be issued on Sunday afternoon.
